This is a bowling tips article on staying behind the ball in bowling. This is more an explanation of what is meant by this term and what actually happens in this common bowling technique.

The term is staying behind the bowling ball or staying up the back of the ball in bowling.

This term means that you want to release the ball so that you rotate your hand at the release point at more of a 12 and 6 o'clock position or at a 0 to 10 degree angle.

What this does is give your bowling ball a more end-over-end roll as it is rolled down lane.

This is a common misinterpreted term.
Here is why. Some, not all, bowlers think that staying behind there ball will give it more hook or change in direction. In fact it is just the opposite. What really happens is because of the end-over-end type rotation the ball will be going straighter.

This is not to say that this is not the ball motion that will carry the pins or react on the bowling lane the best for the time. In most cases in today's game going up the back of the ball is the proper adjustment.

Really all we are trying to say is this bowling technique will not give the bowler more hook or change in direction although these techniques in combination with other finger and wrist position adjustments can change the ball roll to hook earlier or later.
